Alex Arbogast is a postdoctoral researcher in the Manufacturing Robotics and Controls group at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, working within the Manufacturing Demonstration Facility (MDF). Dr. Arbogast specializes in the automation, control, and coordination of advanced manufacturing systems, with an emphasis on multi-robot production platforms. His research centers on developing scalable control architectures that enable teams of robots to collaboratively fabricate large, complex components with high precision and efficiency. Building on emerging paradigms in additive manufacturing and directed energy deposition, his work addresses fundamental challenges in throughput, coordination, and system intelligence.
He received his Ph.D. in Robotics (2025) from the Georgia Institute of Technology and his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (2020) from the University of Tennessee. His doctoral work focused on coordinated motion control and task allocation for multi-agent manufacturing systems. Dr. Arbogast’s current research interests include multi-agent wire-arc additive manufacturing, convergent manufacturing process optimization, mobile multi-agent manufacturing automation, and data-driven control strategies for intelligent production systems.
