Rigoberto “Gobet” Advincula has earned the Roy W. Tess Award in Coatings from the American Chemical Society’s (ACS) Division of Polymeric Materials: Science and Engineering (PMSE). Advincula is a polymer researcher at the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory and a Governor’s Chair Professor at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
The award honors “outstanding contributions to coatings science, engineering and technology” and is intended to encourage interest and progress in coatings science technology and engineering, according PMSE. Advincula will be recognized at PMSE’s awards reception this spring in Atlanta, Georgia.
Leader of the Macromolecular Nanomaterials Group at ORNL’s Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences (CNMS), Advincula focuses on design, synthesis and characterization of polymers and nanomaterials.
Advincula is a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors, the Institute of Materials, Minerals, and Mining, the Royal Society of Chemistry, the Materials Research Society and the American Chemical Society. The author of 513 publications, he has been granted 15 patents with four more pending. He is the winner of numerous awards, most recently the George Stafford Whitby Award for Distinguished Teaching and Research, bestowed by ACS’ Rubber Division.
