Study of Quasielastic Barrier Distributions as a Step towards the Synthesis of Superheavy Elements with Hot Fusion Reactions
The excitation functions for quasielastic scattering of 22Ne+248Cm, 26Mg+248Cm, and 48Ca+238U are measured using a gas-filled recoil ion separator. The quasielastic barrier distributions are extracted for these systems and are compared with coupled-channel calculations. The results indicate that the barrier distribution is affected dominantly by deformation of the actinide…

High efficiency laser resonance ionization of plutonium
Three-step resonance photoionization spectra of plutonium have been studied with Ti:Sapphire lasers for the development of efficient laser ionization schemes for ultra-trace analysis of Pu isotopes by resonance ionization mass spectrometry. We observed eighteen intermediate excited states of even parity in the energy range 35568–36701 cm−1, thirteen of them have not been p…

CLARION2-TRINITY: A Compton-suppressed HPGe and GAGG:Ce-Si-Si array for absolute cross-section measurements with heavy ions
The design and performance of a new Compton-suppressed HPGe and charged-particle array, CLARION2-TRINITY, are described. The TRINITY charged-particle array is comprised of 64 Cerium-doped Gadolinium Aluminum Gallium Garnet (GAGG:Ce) crystals configured into five rings spanning 7–54 degrees, and two annular silicon detectors that can shadow or extend the angular coverage to…

β-Delayed One and Two Neutron Emission Probabilities Southeast of 132Sn and the Odd-Even Systematics in r-Process Nuclide Abundances
The β-delayed one- and two-neutron emission probabilities (P1n and P2n) of 20 neutron-rich nuclei with N≥82 have been measured at the RIBF facility of the RIKEN Nishina Center. P1n of 130,131Ag, 133,134Cd, 135,136In, and 138,139Sn were determined for the first time, and stringent upper limits were placed on P2n for nearly all cases. β-delayed two-neutron emission (β2n) was…

Precision measurement of 65Zn electron-capture decays with the KDK coincidence setup
65Zn is a common calibration source, moreover used as a radioactive tracer in medical and biological studies. In many cases, γ-spectroscopy is a preferred method of 65Zn standardization, which relies directly on the branching ratio of JÏ€(65Zn) = 5/2− → JÏ€(65Cu) = 5/2− via electron capture (EC*). We measure the relative intensity of this branch to that proceeding directly t…

First observation of isomeric states in 111Zr, 113Nb, and 115Mo
Isomeric states in the neutron-rich nuclei 111Zr [T1/2=0.10(7)μs], 113Nb [T1/2=0.7(4)μs], 115Mo [T1/2=46(3)μs] were first identified at the Radioactive Ion Beam Factory (RIBF) of RIKEN by using in-flight fission and fragmentation of a 238U beam at an energy of 345 MeV/u. This is a brief report of the γ transitions de-exciting from isomeric states and half-lives measurement…

β decay of neutron-rich 76Cu and the structure of 76Zn
The β decay of 76Cu to the levels of 76Zn was studied at the Holifield Radioactive Ion Beam Facility (HRIBF) at Oak Ridge National Lab (ORNL). A purified 76Cu beam was developed and data were recorded for the decay of the A=76 decay chain using four high-purity germanium (HPGe) clover detectors at the Low-energy Radioactive Ion Beam Spectroscopy Station (LeRIBSS). In this…

The use of aluminum nitride to improve Aluminum-26 Accelerator Mass Spectrometry measurements and production of Radioactive Ion Beams
We present results and discuss the use of aluminum nitride as a promising source material for Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) and Radioactive Ion Beams (RIBs) science applications of 26Al isotopes. The measurement of 26Al in geological samples by AMS is typically conducted on Al2O3 targets. However, Al2O3 is not an ideal source material because it does not form a proli…
