Abstract

In this report, a phase fault detection algorithm is developed by employing the envelope detector method, which is commonly used in the wireless communication field. The proposed method diagnoses faults among phases, and defines fault area on the incoming signal. The designed algorithm consists of three steps: Analytical Signal Conversion, Complex Magnitude, and Fault Detection. In the first step, the analytic signal of incoming power signal is obtained to provide instantaneous amplitude and phase information, and then changes in the amplitude is presented by employing complex magnitude operation to analytic signal. In the last step, the type, location and size of the fault on the investigated signal is obtained based on the threshold values defined by the user. The proposed method is tested with realistically simulated power signal data in order to present its performance. The obtained results revealed that designed phase fault detection algorithm presents significant performance.
