Andrew Zimmer is a Geospatial Scientist in the Human Geography group at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. His research examines where people live, how populations change and move, and how these dynamics shape exposure to environmental hazards and infrastructure risks.
His work develops high-resolution population datasets and spatial models spanning population geography, spatial demography, human mobility and displacement, urbanization, and environmental exposure. At ORNL, he leads and contributes to research within the LandScan program, including long-term population reconstruction, rapid population updates following disasters and conflict, and uncertainty-aware population modeling.
