David Olvera Trejo

R&D Staff Member – Intelligent Machine Tools Group

David is a Research Staff Member in the Intelligent Machine Tools group, Manufacturing Science Division, at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.  David specializes in research regarding machining dynamics, 5-axis tool path generation for finish machining of Additively Manufactured preforms, and the geometry definition of preforms for finish machining of thin-walled features.

As a result of more than a decade long industrial experience in advanced subtractive process development for machining of Titanium components and other Heat Resistant Super Alloys, David aims to combine his knowledge of subtractive manufacturing with the advantages offered by additive manufacturing. His research interests include the optimization of additively generated preforms for the manufacturing of blisk blades.

Before joining Oak Ridge National Laboratory, David was member of the Research Team at Makino Inc. in the United States. His research at Makino included the application of a new cutting technology for roughing Titanium alloys at higher productivity than carbide technology. This work granted the team two patents regarding the application of such technology. Other significant achievements involve the manufacturing process development of unique components such as the first Metal Leading Edge for GE9x engine and two structural components part of the Orion Capsule belonging to the ARTEMIS program.
