Dr. Gayatri Dhamale is a Plasma Material Interaction Research Scientist (R&D Associate) at Fusion Energy Division in Fusion and Fission Energy and Science Directorate. She joined ORNL as a Post-doctoral Research Associate. Her research interests include operation of helicon source linear plasma devices such as Proto-MPEX (ORNL, TN) and PISCES-RF (UCSD, CA) to test the physics and engineering basis for Materials Plasma Exposure eXperiment (MPEX), a linear plasma device which is under a final construction stage at ORNL. Currently, she is involved in testing of high-Z refractory coatings and an electrostatic shield for mitigating impurities generated due to the window erosion.
Before joining ORNL, Dr. Gayatri Dhamale was working as a post-doctoral researcher at Institute of Plasma Research, India and Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, India. She was involved in developing a framework to simulate a thermal plasma flow profiles for range of plasma devices including transferred and non-transferred arc plasma torch, and RF-ICP etc. Her major contribution was in coupling of plasma flow profile with nucleation and growth of nanoparticles through computational techniques supported by experimental measurements. She has received PhD (Physics) from Savitribai Phule Pune University, India in 2018. Her Ph.D. work involved synthesizing nanoparticles for fabricating a laser grade material using RF-ICP plasma torch and the process understanding through computational and experimental techniques.
Dr. Gayatri Dhamale has received an outstanding reviewer’s recognition from different publishers including IOP and ASM Internationals for the quality and trust in peer review. She is actively reviewing articles for various journal from IOP, AIP, ASM International, etc., publishers.
