Joseph O’Bryant is a staff member of the Materials Processing group specializing in metallurgical engineering. Primary interests are manufacturing and fabrication involving platinum group alloys and casting non-ferrous alloys. Experienced in casting, rolling, forging, welding, heat treating and various other material processing methods.
Joseph is the Metallurgical Manufacturing Engineer and the Light Weight Radioisotope Heater Unit Task manager (LWRHU) for the Radioisotope Power System (RPS) systems special components manufacturing and testing. This program manufactures and certifies safety items that are used in RPSs for a number of government agencies. The program also performs testing and generates data for safety analyses.
Prior to his employment with Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), Joseph was employed at Arconic as the Ingot Quality Superintendent. Formal education includes a B.S. in Metallurgical Engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.
