Dr. Kyoung Lee is a Senior R&D Staff member of the Nuclear Energy and Fuel Cycle Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). His expertise lies in computational nuclear reactor physics and multi-physics nuclear applications for chemical analysis. Dr. Lee’s research is dedicated to enhancing current nuclear applications while spearheading the development of advanced nuclear reactors for the future.

His current and forthcoming work involves the development of Monte Carlo-based methods for analyzing neutron/gamma ray spectra and modeling coupled neutron/photon/electron transport with various detector types. A significant aspect of his research is the evaluation of radioactive particle tracking measurements using Monte Carlo simulation codes, meticulously validated against experimental data. Furthermore, Dr. Lee has made notable contributions to advancing Prompt Gamma Neutron Activation Analysis (PGNAA) for crude oil and petroleum analysis, employing Monte Carlo techniques to optimize experimental processes. Additionally, he is at the forefront of pioneering a novel approach for Detector Response Functions (DRFs), emphasizing the energy deposition correlation between experimental and simulated spectra.
