Muhammad Mominur Rahman is an Alvin M. Weinberg Distinguished Staff Fellow at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. His research focuses on understanding and controlling structure–property relationships in next-generation energy storage materials using advanced operando characterization techniques (optical, synchrotron X-ray, microcalorimetry). Utilizing these insights, Rahman focuses on developing high-performance materials (solid-state oxides and liquid organic electrolyte) for next-generation energy storage.
Rahman integrates materials design, synthesis, and real-time characterization to uncover phase evolution, interfacial processes, and degradation mechanisms in complex battery systems, including lithium-ion and beyond Li-ion chemistries. He serves as PI and co-PI on multiple Laboratory Directed Research and Development (LDRD) projects, advancing fundamental insights that enable safer, higher-energy-density storage technologies for electrified transportation (ground and air mobility) and grid applications.
