Ross Wang

Dr. Chieh (Ross) Wang is a Senior R&D Staff Member and the Group Leader of the Applied Research for Mobility Systems (ARMS) Group at ORNL.  With a strong foundation in engineering and data-driven analysis, his work focuses on developing innovative simulation tools, control strategies, and integrated technologies to enhance transportation efficiency and safety.  At ORNL, Dr. Wang is actively engaged in optimizing traffic management systems, enhancing vehicle connectivity and automation, and integrating state-of-the-art sensor and data analytics solutions to address real-world mobility challenges. His research bridges fundamental scientific insights with practical applications, driving improvements in system performance and reliability across diverse transportation networks.

Outside of research, Dr. Wang has been actively serving the transportation community in various roles. He is a Senior Member of IEEE.  He is a Handling Editor for the Transportation Research Record, the Journal of the Transportation Research Board (TRB). He has served as chair, member, and in several other leadership roles of several TRB committees.  Dr. Wang is an associate member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and a member of ASCE’s Connected & Autonomous Vehicles (CAV) Impacts Committee.

Dr. Wang received his Ph.D. degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Civil Engineering from the National Taiwan University.
