Dr. M. Scott Greenwood is a Research Staff Member in the Advanced Reactor Systems Group at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), where he has 10+ years in building digital twins for applications such as nuclear reactor systems and supercomputers. He leads the development and application of advanced tools and workflows in a variety of areas including system-modeling tools using modern modeling languages such as Modelica — i.e., the ORNL TRANSFORM library, which enables rapid prototyping and system-level evaluation of diverse energy system concepts — and application of gaming technology for scientific and engineering applications — e.g., human-in-the-loop research with immersive technologies, including virtual and augmented reality, and exploration of non-traditional software solutions to novel problems.
He has co-authored 50+ peer-reviewed publications on a range of topics including digital-twin frameworks for liquid-cooled supercomputers (ExaDigiT) and immersive radiation-training systems, reflecting his broad capabilities in both nuclear systems design and advanced computational tools. Dr. Greenwood holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Nuclear Engineering from University of Wisconsin–Madison and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Brigham Young University.
