Nuclear Engineering Radiochemist - Technical Professional

Tyler Walters is a Nuclear Engineering Radiochemist with a deep passion for instrumentation and innovative problem-solving. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Liberty University in 2019, where he honed his skills and embarked on his professional journey by interning at BWXT during his final academic year. His exceptional performance led to a full-time position with BWXT, where he was first introduced to the field of radiochemistry.

During nearly six years at the BWXT Radioisotope and Analytical Chemistry Laboratory, Tyler developed expertise in nuclear counting room operations and advanced instrumentation. His flexibility to changing conditions and willingness to explore new techniques allowed him to contribute to many different radiological projects.

In the spring of 2025, Tyler relocated to Tennessee with his wife to join the Material Signatures and Isotopic Standards (MSIS) group at ORNL. He eagerly anticipates the opportunity to address a broader range of challenges and further refine his instrumental skills within a research-focused organization. Tyler is currently working with sample dissolutions, column separations, and isotopic and elemental assays to support the qualification of standards for NBL. He enjoys interacting with his colleagues who come from a diverse set of backgrounds. He looks forward to working with the numerous, diverse instrumental and analytical methods available to employees at ORNL.

Outside of work, Tyler leads an active and engaging lifestyle. He enjoys spending time with his pets, collecting Lego sets, and watching football. When traveling, he and his wife frequently explore zoological parks and aquariums, combining their love for nature with their sense of adventure.

Tyler’s blend of academic excellence, industry experience, and personal passion makes him a valued member of the team and a dedicated contributor to the advancement of nuclear engineering and radiochemistry technologies.
