Kazi Asifuzzaman, Ph.D., MBA, joined the Architecture and Performance Group (APG) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) as a Research Scientist in 2021. His research spans HPC architectures, AI/neuromorphic computing, emerging memory systems, and quantum computing. He currently leads research in Quantum-HPC architecture and system modeling and advanced memory technologies, while contributing to major U.S. government initiatives in emerging quantum computing. His work increasingly combines technical research with research leadership, strategic collaborations, mentoring, and international partnerships.
Prior to joining ORNL, Dr. Kazi was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), Spain, where he conducted research in computer architecture and high-performance computing.
He received his Ph.D. in Computer Architecture from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), Spain; M.Sc. in Electronic Design from Lund University, Sweden; and B.Sc. in Computer Engineering from North South University, Bangladesh. He also worked on IT systems at Shimizu Densetsu Kogyo Co. Ltd. (SEAVAC), Japan. He recently completed an MBA from Boston University Questrom School of Business, complementing his technical background with expertise in strategy, leadership, finance, and organizational decision-making.
